What Can You Customize in Abyssal Escape?
Abyssal Escape customization lets you bring your own Survivor into the nightmare. Your choices matter because creating a character and equipping abilities are both part of preparing to survive the red mist. Abyssal Escape customization also includes killer variants in the pre-release test build, with certain skins changing the music that follows a chase.
The Roblox alpha lets you tailor a Survivor and equip unique abilities while working with teammates to disperse mist and reach escape. The pre-release test build gives a more detailed picture of that system: a customizable vessel, two selectable Survivor abilities, and cosmetic variants for a portion of the killer roster.
Keep that version distinction in mind throughout this guide. The detailed ability combinations, free options, and skin lineup below describe the pre-release test build. The alpha is still under development, with bugs and glitches part of its current state.
Think about your character in separate passes:
- Appearance: Decide what your Survivor should look like.
- Abilities: Choose what actions you want available during a chase.
- Teamwork: Consider how those actions help other Survivors complete objectives.
Start with a visual idea, then think through the situations your abilities need to handle. A recognizable character concept gives your vessel personality; a deliberate ability pairing gives you something useful to do when the killer closes in.
Design a Survivor With a Clear Visual Concept
The Survivor system centers on a customizable vessel. In the pre-release test build, players could reshape its appearance into recognizable character-inspired designs instead of selecting a conventional roster of named Survivors.

That flexibility extended to repositioning visual elements. An eye could be moved onto the torso to create the appearance of a red circular detail. It is a useful example of how a familiar part can serve a different visual purpose.
Abyssal Escape customization rewards thinking about the finished silhouette and recognizable features before chasing tiny details. Pick the features that make your intended character readable, then build around those.
| Visual element or concept | Pre-release customization example |
|---|---|
| Repositioned detail | An eye moved onto the torso to resemble a red circle |
| Bio-inspired appearance | A vessel styled after Bio from friends.exe |
| Character-inspired designs | Recreations inspired by Baldi and Seek from Doors |
| Personalized Survivor | A custom vessel used as the player's Survivor |
Use these examples as inspiration for the editor’s flexibility. They are finished concepts, rather than exact cosmetic recipes.
Build Around a Few Recognizable Features
Choose a character concept with details you can identify immediately. Focus on the face, a distinctive body feature, or the overall shape. Use repositionable elements creatively when their appearance fits another part of your design.
For an original Survivor, decide on a simple visual theme before adding details. A strange torso feature or an unusual face can give the character a clear identity without requiring a direct recreation of an existing character.
Keep your appearance decisions separate from your ability decisions. Choose the visual elements for the character you want to create, then evaluate abilities by their actual effects.
That separation makes Abyssal Escape customization easier to manage: finish the character concept, then work through the loadout with the same care.
Choose Two Survivor Abilities With Different Jobs
In the pre-release test build, Survivors could select two abilities. The options covered movement, stuns, defensive timing, and healing, giving players different ways to respond to pressure.

Several choices look straightforward at first glance. Slide provides movement, while fireball and the arm cannon offer ways to stun a killer. Phantom reflex asks for a different kind of timing: activate it to prevent damage when the killer strikes and gain a speed boost.
| Ability | Function in the pre-release test build |
|---|---|
| Slide | Movement ability |
| Heroic boost | Mobility and survivability option |
| Arm cannon | Stun ability |
| Fireball | Stun ability |
| Weak punch | Stun ability |
| Phantom reflex | Prevents damage during a successful defensive activation and grants a speed boost |
Slide and the awareness passive were free in that build. Other abilities required rings earned through play. Plan your purchases around a specific function you want to add, such as a stun or a defensive response.
Abyssal Escape customization becomes more useful when you can explain the purpose of each selection. Before choosing a pair, finish these sentences: “I use this ability when…” and “My other ability handles…”
If both answers describe the same situation, reconsider whether you want that overlap.
Understand the Double-Stun Tradeoff
The pre-release build reduced both stun durations by half when a Survivor equipped two stun abilities. That makes an arm cannon and fireball pairing a deliberate tradeoff: you gain two stun options, but each stun lasts less time.
Pair a stun with a movement ability if you want access to different responses. Use the stun to interrupt the threat, then use movement when you need to reposition.
If you choose two stuns, account for their shorter duration. Avoid planning your next action around the full interruption length of a single-stun loadout.
Give Phantom Reflex Its Own Learning Time
Phantom reflex rewarded successful defensive timing with damage prevention, a speed boost, and a short cooldown. Three successive successful activations could also stun the killer in the test build.
Practice recognizing an incoming attack before relying on that sequence. Focus on landing the defensive activation itself, then use the resulting speed boost to reposition.
Choose it because you want to learn that timing. Its value depends on responding to the killer’s attack, so approach it differently from an ability that directly fires a projectile.
Shape Your Loadout Around Stamina and Teamwork
Abyssal Escape customization connects directly to the game’s main task: surviving long enough to escape while helping disperse red mist. Your ability choices need to leave room for both chase decisions and objective work.
In the pre-release build, stamina powered abilities without determining running speed. Spending it therefore affected which actions remained available even while you could continue running.
Healing added another commitment. It held the Survivor in place and consumed substantial stamina, creating a clear reason to think about timing and nearby danger before using it.
| Gameplay interaction | Pre-release behavior | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Ability use | Consumed stamina | Keep enough stamina for the action you expect to need next |
| Running | Running speed was separate from ability stamina | Track ability availability while moving |
| Healing | Held the user still and used substantial stamina | Check the threat before committing |
| Mist dispersal | Held Survivors in place during the minigame | Watch the surrounding area before starting |
| Group objectives | Up to four Survivors could disperse mist together | Coordinate objective work with nearby teammates |
Use this table to connect your selections to actual match decisions. A mobility ability still needs stamina when you press it. A healing option still requires time spent stationary. A stun still needs to connect.
Make Each Ability Earn Its Place
Build a simple plan before the round:
- Identify the situation that causes you trouble, such as getting caught without a response.
- Choose an ability whose stated function addresses that situation.
- Give the second slot a clear purpose.
- After a round, review whether you actually used both selections.
Change one selection at a time when adjusting your loadout. That makes it easier to judge whether the new option helped you handle the situation you had in mind.
Avoid using an ability simply because it is available. Save stamina when the killer is distant, and spend it when the ability has a clear job.
Adapt Your Decisions to the Killer
The pre-release killers created different pressures. Furnace could damage multiple nearby Survivors with scorched earth. Spread out when facing that attack instead of crowding into its path.
No More Innocence could create a Survivor clone and replace it through teleportation. Pay attention to approaching Survivors when facing that kit, especially during objective work.
Fleetway could grab a Survivor and combine the grab with flight to pull them away from help. Coordinate with teammates and watch where a grabbed player is being taken.
Use Abyssal Escape customization to prepare your responses, then adjust your positioning to the killer in front of you.
Explore Killer Skins and Their Chase Themes
Survivors carried the broader appearance editor in the pre-release build. Killer customization focused on variants, with X receiving several distinct looks and Fleetway having a slight recolor.
Some X skins also changed chase audio. That gives those variants an identity you can hear during play as well as see in the character model.
| Killer | Pre-release variant | Associated presentation |
|---|---|---|
| X | Alternate variant | Alternate appearance |
| X | 2011 X skin | Different chase theme and musical layers |
| X | The disaster X | Chase themes from The disaster |
| Fleetway | Recolored variant | Slightly different coloration |
For Abyssal Escape customization focused on atmosphere, pay attention to both the model and the chase music. The 2011 X skin and The disaster X offered different audio identities alongside their appearances.
Choose between those looks based on the character presentation you enjoy. Keep the killer’s abilities in mind separately when deciding which role you want to play.
Distinguish Skins From Match Evolution
Killer evolution is another part of Abyssal Escape’s character presentation. The alpha includes increasingly dangerous phases as a match progresses.
In the pre-release build, No More Innocence and 2017X could transform into forms with different move sets. Those transformations happened through match progression.
A selected skin and a phase transformation serve different purposes. Consider the cosmetic when choosing your preferred appearance, and learn the phase system when preparing for how the killer’s actions change during a round.
